Someone told me the secret to strawberries was lots of water. But not sure how long the plants last - they certainly dont dig the 1 year old plants out at the commercial farms here...perhaps they last for a couple of years before productivity reduces. I often get quite a good harvest from new planted strawberries too without having spoilt the plants or the soil.
