A string quilt top!

EIGHTY string squares ready to have their paper torn off to sew into .............

............this quilt top. I finished this late this afternoon after spending most of the day helping out my DH with Beach hop stuff.
I've got to say that I loved the process of making this quilt right from recieving the fabric from some ladies over on the ORBC flickr group to choosing groups of fabrics for each of the squares and then seeing it all come together. The worst bit was taking off the paper before sewing the squares together. That took the looongest time but hey the end result certainly made up for it. I am planning on adding a 1 1/2" border in the white but still thinking on how to quilt it. If anyone can recommend a good quality batting and where to buy it that would be great and it doesn't necessarily have to be local.

And one more photo because I like this one.

I'm linking up with Amy's 'Sew'n'tell Friday' too this week so go on over and check out some other great finishes for this week over here or click on the button over on the righthand side bar.

Oh oh oh I love it. I've made 4 squares towards my first string quilt and I don't know how I managed to quilt for so long without making one. Yours is STUNNING! Congratulations. are you really going to quilt it yourself? you are amazing!

I love this so much! One of my next projects is a string quilt and this is very inspiring. It's looks a lot like a paintbox.

oh I love this! My mom always uses warm and natural or warm and white. It's a cotton batting and you can get it off the bolt at Joann's and cheap if you have a 40% off coupon. The nice thing is that it shrinks up and gets crinkly when you wash it.

Can't wait to see it quilted!

It's a beautiful quilt - love all the great fabric. I like Warm and Natural too. I haven't done much quilting, so haven't been able to sew and tell anything in a while, but hopefully soon.

Wow, what a gorgeous quilt top! I can't even imagine how much work went into that. My favorite quilt batting is Warm & Natural, but I'm not sure if that's readily available in New Zealand? I've been really happy with it and I've heard great reviews from other quilters too.

Catherine, this is beautiful! I love everything about it!

My favorite batting is a bamboo/cotton blend. It's much softer and drapes better after washing than Warm & Natural. This is the brand I've used: http://www.poly-fil.com/batting.asp (scroll down for bamboo/cotton), but there are many others.
