Apparently there is quite a few whales around at the moment as they are on their annual southern migration down to Antarctica. To give you an idea of its size and weight 2 diggers struggled to drag it further down the beach to a burial site and ended up having to roll it along.

I can hardly fathom the size and power of one of those fantastic creatures. It is sad to see one at the end of it's life. Amazing sight, really.
Very sad... poor thing, they are such majestic creatures.
So sad :o( We've had a few beachings around our coast recently, although no-one's sure why (and they've all been at totally different points/sides of the country) No-one has though, to the best of my knowledge, tried to get a jawbone from any of them, how horrible :o(
Do you know what kind of whale it is?
So sad and such an undignified end for a wonderful creature.
Oh that is so sad....
That's really sad. And I can't believe the poaching of the jawbone!
oh that is so sad....
